Mary Heaslip – Chairman

A native of Arklow, Mary moved to Wicklow in 1973 when she married a local, Joe Heaslip.  They have three adult children and two grandchildren.  Mary was a volunteer Youth Leader with St. Manntans Youth Club in the 70’s, involved in Wicklow Tidy Towns and on the Board of Management of the Dominican College.  In addition, she was a Counsellor and Trainer with Accord for 15 years and a board member of Citizens Advise and Chairperson of Wicklow Working Together.  She worked in a number of administrative roles in the H.S.E., retiring in 2010 as Facilities Manager for east Wicklow.

Mary’s other interests include Reading, Gardening and Craft Work and she is an active member of Ashford I.C.A.

Having been diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2017, Mary brings firsthand experience of dealing with cancer to the role of Chairperson and is fully committed to easing the pressures on individuals and their families from dealing with the disease.

Siobhan Condon - Secretary

Siobhan grew up in Wicklow Town, where her parents Liam and May Condon lived for many years, but spent her whole working life in Dublin, returning after her retirement to settle in Wicklow and has been volunteering with W.C.S. as a driver since 2017.   During her working life she worked in various administrative and financial roles and was involved in the Credit Union of Bord Gais Eireann for over 20 years as Chairman, Treasurer and most recently, Risk and Compliance Officer.  She, therefore, brings a wealth of experience to the roles of board member and secretary of Wicklow Cancer Support.

Siobhan’s other interests include Landscape Painting, Gardening and has recently taken up Dress Making after a gap of 30 plus years, having purchased an electric machine during Lockdown.  Siobhan recently became a member of Wicklow Hospice Gardening Volunteers who meet fortnightly to maintain and plant up the grounds of Wicklow Hospice Magheramore.

Ken Loughran – Tresurer

Originally from Dublin, Ken has lived in Wicklow for over thirty years.  He is a qualified accountant and works for a large U.S. financial services company.  Ken is a cancer survivor and, as a member of the Department of Health’s Cancer Patient Advisory Committee, actively advocates for the needs of cancer patients and their families.

Ken is married with two teenage kids and, in his limited spare time, enjoys golf, rugby and hillwalking.

 

Philomena Dunne – Board Member

Originally from Dublin, Philomena (Phil) has lived in Wicklow for over 30 years. She originally trained as a nurse and worked with people with disabilities and life limiting conditions throughout her career. She retired in 2014 after a very rewarding career in healthcare, working with various charitable organisations, culminating in the opening of Ireland’s first children’s hospice, Lauralynn House in Leopardstown, Dublin.

Since retirement Phil has enjoyed hobbies such as gardening, walking, knitting and painting.  Phil has a keen interest in music and singing and is a member of the Folk Group at St. Joseph’s Church in Glenealy, the St. John of God Choir and Wicklow Singers.  She and her husband Brendan joined the volunteer driver programme at WCS in 2023.

 

Barry O’Reilly – Board Member

Barry grew up in Wicklow.  After leaving school in 1982, he joined his parents Billy and Clodagh in the family business, Wicklow Hire & Sales and O’Reilly Hardware, which he continues to run today with his brother Billy.  He has served on the Traders Committee in Wicklow for a number of years.

Barry’s interests include Rugby, yoga and hillwalking.

 
 

Allyson Minion – Board Member

Allyson is originally from Ashford and has lived all her life in Wicklow.  Allyson is married to Trevor, and they have two adult children.  She worked in administration in Wicklow County Council from 1981 to 2022 and is now enjoying retirement.  She is a member of a Safeguarding Trust team and a Friendship Group which meets monthly.  She has a keen interest in gardening and baking.

She joined as a volunteer driver in 2023. 

 

Ann McCarthy – Board Member

Ann was born in Dublin in the Liberties and historically is a genuine Dub.  She moved to Wicklow in 1974.  She joined Wicklow Cancer Support in 2011 after retiring from an administrative career in Nursing.  In her tenure in Wicklow Cancer Support she has been a committee member and Secretary for the past 11 years.
